Design Process: Part 1
We took the MAP test shortly after coming to the Challenge Kickoff in November. Our teacher told us that our scores were good, but could be better if we spent more time practicing our multiplication facts. So, we decided to create a computer game that would do just that!
First, we brainstormed what we wanted our game to be able to do. So, we made a KWL chart to see what we all knew about computer games, what we wanted to know about computer games, and at the end we finished the chart to tell what we learned about computer games. Then, went to the computer lab to research and play different math games to compare the games to other games and tell what we liked and did not like about three different games.
Next, we put our ideas together and created four different teams. Mason, Allie, Brelynn, and Megan were captains of the teams. Each team had to create a design of a game to present to the class. After each group presented their game to the class, the class had to vote on one design that we would use to make our game. The class voted on using Team Mason's design.

Design Process: Part 2
Next, each team had to develop a game using Scratch. We used LearnScratch.org to help us learn how to use Scratch to build our game. We also Skyped a 5th grade class that had already been using Scratch to create similar projects. They were our experts. So, we used what we learned to create our games and presented them to the class to see which game we liked best. The students tested each game and made a list of pros and cons. We voted for the game that we thought was best designed and met the requirements of the original plan. Here's a picture of the winning game.
Once we voted on the game, we made a list of things that we could do to make the game better. So, everyone was given a job to do to help make our class project better. There were a group of people working writing the paper, working in the technology department, and a lot of other things to make sure that our game and presentation were going to be awesome!
